The Latest Trend ~ Top Knots…

I’m really not sure how this trend ever started but would you really call this style?

I’m sorry, I know this is a big hit with everyone right now, but I cant help but feel like this is a look for lolling around at home or for jumping in the shower, (which is when I usually have my hair like this for)  but for it to appear outdoors in public on everyone from Miley Cyrus to Nicole Ritchie (who I have every respect for when it comes to style) but still, I’m just not feeling this one.

Sorry to the girls at Dekko, just my point of view.. Here’s an article from Star magazine this week about it, I must say I do think Julianne Hough’s looks pretty cool on her, cos it looks abit more than a round ball on top of her head!

Davines Treatment Pak..

NOU NOU Pak

IMG_1997
I know the picture looks very ‘OFF’ don’t know what happened.. everything is crooked including the thick mask inside the bottle : |

The Nou Nou Pak is a nourishing repairing Mask made with Olive Butter for dry and brittle hair.
To use: Distribute evenly on towel dried hair and massage in gently. Comb through and leave it to work for 10-15mins then rinse out thoroughly.

From my limited experience on treatments and paks, they seem to work better when the hair is wrapped up in a towel or put under a steamer, both these methods keep the head/hair warmer and will help the cuticles open up, therefore allowing the treatment/pak to go into the surface of the hair adding more moisture to the hair.

Because I like my hair to be messy textured, dry and rougher feeling, I’m not the best reviewer on treatments and paks so I have not actually tried this product.

My Pick ~ Julien dY’s

Came across these gorgeous visuals in the W Magazine. The brilliant photographer was Tim Walker (who has major credentials working extensively with Vogue, Kate Moss, Helena Bohnam Carter to name a few) and the stylist for the hair was Julien dY’s.

Julien dY’s (pronounced Dees) is a photographer, painter and set designer and has been in charge of head dressing at the annual Costume Institute Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC since 2005. With such a a creative versatile background, no wonder these images are so dramatic, striking and strong!

Enjoy.. and to see more of Julien and Tim’s work, follow links above..

Dekko’s Daily Grind ~ Robin

Robin was introduced to me through a client of mine as I was looking for a video editor. I had just shot some scenes for ‘How to Use my Juju Texture Powder Styler’. The video needed work and putting together so Robin, who has his own company Banefox and produces and edits videos and short films stepped in to help me make my short video a lot more decent. Robin now has an independent motion picture production company in the works…Revelcade Entertainment.

Anyway, after Robin took time out of his busy schedule to sort out my little hair clip, we decided he should have a change of style. He came into Dekko and I decided to ‘perk’ up his old hairstyle abit.

Here’s Robin before:

After a lot of slicing, chopping, razoring and shaping, we came up with this new shape for Robin..

Looks great right (if I may say so myself) Thanks to Robin for all his help with this JujuChan video.. as well as being patient with my pictures… Cheers!

Renegade Fair Hair

Its been a long time since I’ve been out on the streets looking for my ‘Cool Mops’ for my blog, and I didn’t actually intend to go approaching people again, but once I walked around the Renegade Arts and Crafts Fair yesterday, (an Annual Event held at the Fort Mason in San Francisco) I noticed a few good looking Hair (and stylish) girls around. So out came my i-phone and before I finished up for the day I went snapping away.

Here are some of the looks I  saw and because I’m so out of practice I only got a few of their names so hopefully they might see this and I can add it later, Thanks girls for posing for me and  letting me put you on my blog.

Dazed Digital ~ I was a punk rock princess

Fantastic visuals of before’s and after’s of the fabulous work of Peter Grey who was the hairstylist on this shoot and Andreas Kurwitz who did all the crazy creative color work. Dazed Digital is the online fashion version of  Dazed and Confused.

Fashion Editor Cathy Edwards said:

“I was inspired by some punk hairdressing postcards I found at a car boot sale about 10 years ago. I’ve had them on my wall for all that time and finally decided to show them to a hairdresser and use them as a starting point to create some very extreme ‘hair art’.

Peter is one of the most technically skilled hairdressers I’ve ever worked with and I knew he would be able to do something amazing. He is so passionate about what he does that it was great working with him. He has a brilliant team of really skilled assistants and colourists that means anything is possible!

The girls were all great! It took three days and late nights to do and they all had to have their hair bleached to white before the cut and colour so it was very time consuming. They were all very patient and totally open to anything we wanted to do. I loved the fact they were different characters and all of them really liked how the hair looked in the end.”

Great work, Thanks for sharing with us : )

Fashion Illustrator ~ Julie Verhoeven

I came across this talented English artist in the magazine ‘Plastic Dreams’ and loved her bright colorful artwork. Not only is Julie’s work colorful but Julie herself as well as her home is vibrant and full of color.

Her doe eyed trendy figures have used and illustrated on bags for LV and Mulberry, swimsuits for Versace and lip gloss tubes for Lancôme. Her designs are also published in Vogue, Dazed and Confused and The face magazines as well as working with other companies such as H & M home.

She has a permanent collection in the Victoria and Albert Museum with around 40 of Julie’s drawings, Now that’ what you call an achievement. Excellent!

Here are 2 of my favorite picks of  her drawings:

Julie reveals that she is inspired by pop culture, city lie, music and also by her own mortality, so to move forward she is finding new ways to express herself – Darker, gritty and less pretty. We cant wait to see more of her work.
