My Pick ~ Keith Carpenter

OK, so here’s my pick of the day…
My Pick 8bI love this although we all know its a catwalk/stage look, I mean if I went on Bart or Muni with my hair like this I’m sure I’d be getting quite a few stares as well as a few larfs, but nevertheless, I still love it for its shape and volume, and of course, you know me with my love of big curly (yes, even frizzy hair).
The hair was done by Keith Carpenter for an issue of the Marie Claire Magazine. Thanks Keith for your creativity.
This look can be achieved either by combing/picking out naturally curly hair to achieve the height and width, or the hair can be set first either on very small rollers or pipe cleaners, and then picked out or combed out for the required look.

Jin Bang from Prive at Dekko Salon

Every now and again we at Dekko are lucky enough to get some outside teachers sent our way to give us inspiration and show us some new techniques.
Jin Bang, Artistic Educator from Prive Salon (LA & NY) came over to give us a demo on 2 models. The stylists had requested he show us a long layered haircut (always useful on our clients) on one model and the other model, a creative look.

Here’s Jin working on Kayleigh with his creative techniques. He showed a variation of how to remove bulk from the hair and adding lots of texture to it.

Before and after pictures of Sharon, His long layered haircut (the Kim K. as Jin would call it)(as in Kim Kardashian)! Starting with the base line to get the desired length, then he went to the front area and carved out a ‘C’ curve into the side areas. Lastly, the layers were picked straight up from the head and angled from short to long then blowdried using a round brush to create the body.

And here is before and after pictures of Kayleigh again, Jin’s creative haircut as seen in the above pictures. Jin started working from the inside out, starting with the internal layers and taking lots of bulk out with his new techniques before cutting the length off (using a back-cutting technique). He then went into the front area and sliced the front off, then returning to the sides, he connected the back length to the sides, keeping the sides longer. he continued to remove bulk throughout the layers through the top area too. Once the blow dry was completed, Jin returned into the whole haircut and refined any unwanted long areas of hair.

Both models looked great and we were very inspired by Jin, Thank You so much for ‘popping’ over and showing us a thing or two!

Asian Afro Hair…

You all know by now that I have a thing about curly hair, especially tight curls but here are some examples to show Asian Afro hair that some of you may or may not like so much (matter of opinion, I guess)

Asian-Afro_060209_m

(Personally I like the girls above, she looks very hip and suits her face shape and of course age, cant say I feel the same about the boy tho’)

But now here’s someone who ALWAYS looks good with her Asian Afro (this might have something to do with the fact that’s she’s a goddess no matter what) MAGGIE CHEUNG MAN YUK
Maggie has mostly had afro textured hair whenever I see her with shorter hair, and I personally have had the honor of styling it and making it look as silky and normal as I could for a commercial (not the easiest of styling jobs, I must add)( I will show you in a separate post about my job) but she somehow manages to make Asian Afros look cool, hip and extremely beautiful regardless of age! Here she is in a scene from her movie ‘Clean’.

Maggie Q

Maggie Q – International Star – most memorable to date, being Mission Impossible III.

I made this slideshow because even though I think Maggie’s style in hair is a little on the classic side, she wears the styles well. With a face like hers you certainly cant go wrong with any style really but being an actress I guess staying basic and classic is the way to go. Enjoy my selection : )

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung – latest ‘it’ girl from England, known for her great fashion sense and now host of MTV USA. I admire this girls syle and wanted to show you some varied looks that make this girl stand out with her simple yet original style, both in hair and dress. She has the perfect hair for the ‘unkempt’ look which makes out like she doesn’t have to try very hard at all! With her English mum and Eurasian dad, it looks like she got the best of both worlds working for her hair. Go girl!

Vanessa Hudgens

I wanted to share some pictures of Vanessa Hudgens. With her dark ,thick healthy locks, thanks to her background mix of Filipino, Chinese and Spanish decent, she is able to constantly show a variety of styles. What I do like about her hair and styles is that she chooses styles that are young and fun, which is what she should be doing but sometimes once Hollywood gets to someone they have been known to end up looking TOO old and stuffy! Here are afew that are my favorites……

Tribute to Keanu’s Hairstyles……

Keanu Reeves… an actor with so many looks that I had to do my own little tribute to him. Half Hawaiian Chinese, he tends to make the most of his thick hair, trying out different looks for his different movie roles and always ending up looking fabulous, Good on you Keanu!! We love you!
