Dekko’s Daily Grind ~ Shelley

Just wanted to show you a quick makeover on Shelley who came in recently to have a change in color as well as a slight change in the style of fringe.

Shelley had never really tried having a fringe before so we gave her quite a heavy one so it could keep the slight wave in her hair weighted down more. We also put a lot more layering into the rest of the hair so the curl would bounce up much more.

Color wise, Jodi took the color from a coppery shade and lifted it up to a beigey blondey shade which is very flattering to the complexion. Great look Shelley all round : )

Schwarzkopf Professional Color

I came across these great images from the American Salon magazine which featured the new release of Schwarzkopf’s new and exciting color – Igora Royal.

The Igora Royal color line delivers 50% longer color retention and 25% greater vibrancy without fadeage.

This spring/summer 2013 collection from Schwarzkopf and Essential Looks highlights 4 different trends spilt into these categories: White Angels, Mono Mods, Glam Chic and Electric Youth, all of which have been colored with the new igora Royal.

Hair by Steve Hogan,(Schwarzkopf)  Tyler Johnston and Lesley Lawson (Essential Looks)

I have picked out 4 of my favorite looks from the White Angels and the the Electric Youth collections. Hope you enjoy them.

My Pick ~ Orlando Pita

King of catwalk hair and hair mentor on TV the show ‘Shear Genius”, Orlando Pita is often renowned for his elaborate and Avant garde hairdo’s. But for this Vogue shoot he kept the styles (whether wigs or their own hair) very cutesy short and clean looking.. I chose them as my pick because I find them very fresh looking.

Dekko’s Daily Grind..Trac

My client Trac is constantly changing his hair up, he goes from long to short and back to long again in no time. After wearing his hair on the longer messier side for quite some time, Trac decided he wanted to try something abit neater and more groomed looking – as in the 30’s Clark Cable look.

Here’s Trac when he came in:

We used the razor to give his  course Asian hair abit more softness and movement, even though we knew we would be combing it back, we still wanted the hair to move around more so it would be easier for him to style. During the haircut we were aware not to cut the hair too short that it would be too stiff to style, we left it all slightly longer than we would have with fine soft hair. It was then styled using Cool Grease (a styling product from Japan that is water based but leaves the hair looking slightly wet but doesn’t look stiff like gel does). The hair was then combed back into place and left to dry.

The funny thing about this haircut was that Trac did not tell us he was having his hair cut for his wedding afew days later until after we finished cutting it! It’s a bloody good job it came out really well and went with his wedding outfit perfectly! Talk about being casual about it! Congratulations Trac!

Ken Pave’s Wigs

I must admit I’m always abit skeptical with wigs and pieces for the hair anyway, so when I heard there was a collaboration from Jessica Simpson and her style guru hairdresser – Ken Paves, I really wasn’t too sure. (Sorry, nothing personal) But even I have to admit after I came across a couple of their looks recently, that they looked really good!

With this first look, (Text taken from American Salon Magazine) Ken used what he called a Hairdo Angled Cut Wig in a pale blond color. He darkened the roots with ebony brown eye shadow and then razor cut the wig to create uneven choppy layers with soft edges. He then used a volumizing spray to give it the edgy finish.

Now I really like this second look, I love the feel and idea of the whole romantic braided look.

(Text from American Salon Mag) Ken used 4 black 22’” Hairdo Straight Extensions. He clipped 2 on each side of the head, starting from the front and just above the ears in a V-pattern before teasing and clipping them into place. After adding the remaining extensions on each side of the crown and creating a center part closure, he applied a Hairdo Clip In Bang that he had lifted to platinum before teasing and pinning into place.

Now what do you all think? Would you go and buy some pieces or wigs just to have some fun and create some new looks?

Kurt Kueffner gives a good Shave and a Haircut…

Came across these strong looking images from American Salon magazine and figured it was about time I did a post for the boys!

Kurt Kueffner is a men’s barber/groomer/entrepreneur. In a time when men are looking for more than your old barber shop 5minute haircut but then are not ready to step into the beauty salon where lots of women are scary looking with their foils in the hair, we have the modern type Barber Shops. Kurt opened his Barber shop alongside David Raccuglia, named MENSDEPT. in Minneapolis and since then he has built a reputation for his great men’s work as well as their own product  line.

I took afew of his haircuts from their latest collection to show you some fabulous strong work where Kurt was influenced from a very young age by the traditional Barber techniques from the past.

You have to admit, these guys look ‘Sharp”’!

Cosmogony by Trevor Sorbie

Adam Szabo and Mai Ha from Trevor Sorbie UK, created these lovely fantasy styles for their latest collection named Cosmogony. Featured in ‘Behind the Chair’ magazine, I would like to share these very creative works of art with you.

Extract from magazine: (although I must admit I find the wording abit too airy fairy, sorry Trev )

‘This collection adds brand new words to the hairdressing vocabulary. Patchwork, Crevicing, Ridgeplay, Crenulation, Otherworldly and Geographic.  It stretches the limits and blurs the lines between hair and substance, reality and imagination. It reminds us that sometimes its best to destroy all that came before, and let the next era rise from the ashes. Because don’t forget, once upon a time, it all began with a single, mighty, big bang.’

My Pick ~ Black and Red

I love this picture, the haircut, color and styling is so strong and vivacious. Great angle for the photography too. I wish I could give credit where its due and tell you who did the work but alas I came across it online  in a beauty website called beauty-zone.org.

Well, whoever did this should be pretty proud of this one, well done..

My Pick ~ Girlie crops

Three very  lovely cropped hairstyles, shaped delicately to the head shape, giving what I would call the Jean Seberg/Mia Farrow pixie look. Its looks like these that I hope will show women in America that short hair can indeed look soft and sophisticated and that its not just for that European look. Jada Pinkett Smith said it so well recently when defending her daughter Willow in her choice to have very short hair. I will post a link here as its definitely worth a read.

My Pick ~ Miss A

Another member of the Korean band Miss A, These shots of Min were taken from the video ‘Bad Girl, Good Girl’ hence the slight fuzziness. I liked her asymmetric haircut and thought I would add it to my picks because it’s a style that’s simple yet by taking one side of the hair shorter it can add a lot more character to the shape. A shape all clients can relate to…
