Came across these fantastic looks a while back but finally came across the full collection so I wanted to share it with you. Here is a excerpt from American Salon magazine, where it was featured exclusively..
‘French romanticism is the heart of the new Optique collection from Australian artist Tracey Hughes and the Mieka Hairdressing team. Encompassing smooth graphic shapes, disheveled texture, boldly cut fringes, rounded edged and intricate braids, the hairstyles strike the perfect balance between classic and edgy. Ultra feminine fashions combined with chic minimalist eye make up and dramatic dark lips complete the glamorous effect. Optique draws inspiration from an era of expensive and elegant tastes, creating seamlessly flawless images, says Hughes, who is artistic director for Redken Australia and winner of the 2011 Australian Masters and Australian Salon of the Year awards. I chose to shoot in black and white to capture the feel of iconic classic and contemporary feminine looks.’

With me having long hair, I tend not to brush or comb it and I don’t mind the odd dreads forming now and again, which tend to make my hair look thicker anyway…. but after coming across these disgusting monstrosities, I promise never to let it go too far, Eww I would hate to think what could be living in there!!!
I know I have already done a post about braids but I came across these pictures with these lovely romantic looking braids from Modern Salon magazine and wanted to share with you..
The hair was styled by Vivienne MacKinder who is the founder of HairDesignerTV.com as well as being Fashion Director for Intercoiffure America-Canada.
‘This collection features a blend of fishtail braids, three-strand reverse and three strand rope braids, using strategic placement of Simplicity hair extensions and combining backcomb, blending and combining different shapes enhanced by push-pull effects. Vivienne was eager to bring romance sophistication and softness to braids in this Modern Collection as they can often appear beach or juvenile.’
‘There is a true art to Braiding, demanding great dexterity and skills, Its all about fashion that stands out, yet fits in.’ says MacKinder.
Some of the things you need to consider when you change your hairstyle are:
Does it grow quickly?
If your hair grows back quickly, think about how often you are willing to visit the salon to get your hair trimmed up. Shorter styles grow out faster than longer styles, so if your hair has always grown quickly, you’ll be visiting Rush.co.uk more often to book appointments. Certain areas outgrow others too, so layering will merge together after a while.
Will it match your lifestyle?
How you live should impact your hair choices. For example, if you were planning on joining the army in the foreseeable future, it probably wouldn’t be wise to get an overly glamorous cut, because it’ll get in the way. You want one that’s easily kept off of your face. Or if you are in the habit of tying it up and out of the way, when you go to work, you probably shouldn’t get an above the shoulder cut.
Will it suit your facial features?
Whether a hairstyle will suit you or not, depends on your facial features. For example, people with square jaws don’t tend to suit bangs. If you have a rounded face, you won’t want a haircut that makes your face seem larger than it actually is. Those with an oval face suit feathered layering below the chin. Experiment a little with some image editing software before you book.
How much time are you willing to spend maintaining your hairstyle?
Certain hairstyles will only look good if you are determined to maintain it. So if you don’t think too much about how your hair is presented to the world on a daily basis, it’s not worth getting a high maintenance haircut. For example, a short cut like Miley Cyrus’s new hair, takes a fair amount of maintenance, getting it re-cut, and styling it every morning.

For my recent trip to Hong Kong, I must admit that I was fairly excited to go and check out the street fashion and hairstyles over there. Armed with my camera and i-phone my aim was to capture lots of different looks to show on my blog.
After all it was only 4years ago (pre-blogging days) that I was last there and spotted all these youngsters who were dressing a lot like the trendy Japanese kids, Blonde long hair, full on Goth make up and ultra trendy outfits that would fit right in in Yoyogi Park!
But to my dismay, I found Hong Kong fashion to be very tame and conservative this time around, very ‘office like’ is how I would describe it. Granted, I did not go out clubbing and looking for the hipsters that may have been hanging out in the trendy bars and clubs late at night, for sure I would’ve come across some then, but I wanted to see normal day street fashion.
Thankfully, I did take a trip over the border to Shenzhen and my good friend Danny took us to the O.C.T. Lofts, (Contemporary Art Terminal), it was here that I at least found afew good-looking hipsters that looked abit more interesting. In amongst the nice cafes, art gallery’s and book stores, I was surprised to find that this part of China was so into their art and trendy furniture and cafes, so along with it, some creative people. I finally got my camera out and took one picture of a young girl perched on a bench with her head buried in one of their forbidden books.
Hoping to add to my photo collection from then on, I failed miserably as everywhere I went I found mainly people from Mainland China with their huge suitcases coming over to shop in Hong Kong, keeping the Prada and Louis Vuitton stores in business. This trip showed me yet again that no matter how much money you have to shop in these places…Money can’t buy you style! In fact it became abit of a game as I tried to spot the tourists from the Mainland, the biggest giveaway unfortunately was the tacky dress sense.
So out of it all came this short article to try and make up for the lack of pictures showing you what was happening in style and fashion in Hong Kong and China and I hate to report – Not much is happening, but enjoy these tourist pics instead…
My next article for the famed English educational website myHairdressers.com covers different types of layers, and how to go about choosing what types for clients and how to combine the layers with different techniques. A great read for people who just want to know how to differentiate between layers..
