Trend Vision Awards Wella

My Pick ~ Eugene Souleiman

Time and time again, I randomly pick out visions and styles that impress me or that attract my attention and these days I really shouldn’t be so surprised when yet again I have chosen to showcase another or Eugene Souleiman’s (from Wella) creations.

That man is talented big time!! I LOVE his work and even though shown here (from Marie Claire magazine) is a very classic simple style, he always manages (with the help of the photographer and make up artist of course) to creative an artistic quirky unique look. Keep up the good work, its lovely to follow….

Chromaline by Tim Hartley

A few years ago Hair Guru Tim Hartley (originally one of the main creatives in Vidal Sassoon), collaborated with Davine’s Product company to create one of their many collections – Chromaline

With this collection Tim teamed up with colorist Brian Suhr to produce these gorgeous shapes and radiant colors of varying shades. The result – Beautiful!

Here I have chosen to showcase some of my favorites….

Dekko’s Daily Grind ~ Brian by Scott

Scott Klassen from Dekko has been cutting Brian’s hair for many years and have come up with some great looks but this one is my absolute favorite! Shaven very short through the sides, the top remains longer and hanging over to one side in a very definite precise line. This style and variations of it has a been very popular in Europe and over here different variations can be seen on Joe Jonas and Win Butler of Arcade Fire.

Lots of background info on this ‘do’ but before we get too carried away with all the info, here’s Brian sporting his ‘undercut’… Thanks Brian, and Thanks to Sarah from Dekko for the great pictures with her choice of psychedelic background!

Lots of controversy surrounding the name of this haircut. To be honest with you, most would just call it an ‘undercut’ but hipsters have been known to go into salons/barber shops asking for the’ Hitler Youth’ haircut, (and No, Brian did not come in asking for it) which of course would cause a whole load of concern especially as more and more guys are asking for this new hip look. I don’t like to get caught up with some people’s concern’s of what they think is displaying fascism through a hairstyle, to me it’s a look – modern edgy and new for men, recreated and modernized from the 20’s and 30’s style that men used to wear all the time (Think Gary Grant or Clark Gable). Its great that men can finally have some fun with their hair despite what people choose to call it and associate with it.

For an interesting read on the topic, here’s an article I found interesting..

Ballerina’s and Donut’s!

Notice how everyone around us are wearing their hair in Ballerina buns? And I don’t really mean those top knots that I said I didn’t like afew weeks ago. Slight difference in my eyes.. these are more elegant looking whereas the others looked like ‘home hair’ Anyway, I was told I needed to write a post about how best to achieve these perfect shaped buns.. Thanks Sarah Geiger for keeping  me on top of it all!

There are so many different ways to achieve these looks, including twisting, tucking and rolling and so many different positions on the head to put them too. But the one’s I wanted to talk about today is the very perfectly rounded shapes worn on top or near the top of the head.

hair-donuts

These can be achieved very easily by using hair donuts (or sausages, as shown above). First, tie hair up into a ponytail on top of the head, (or slightly to the side if you want) Once the pony is secure, choose the donut best suited for color matching your own hair, slip the pony through the center of the donut, split it in the middle and spread the hair around the donut to make sure all of the donut is covered. The ends of the hair is then wrapped around the donut and tucked underneath and pinned into place.

Here are some examples of how the the finished look could result in, good luck!

Comb-overs and all…

Is this look really better than taking it all off? Still cant understand why men wear it this way.. what about a windy day?

And while were talking about windy… Why does Donald Trump insist on wearing his hair like the toupee look? I mean this is what happens..

Ling Tan ~ Supermodel

My good friend and journalist Stevie Wong first brought my attention to China’s first supermodel afew months back, so as I was looking into her work, I was impressed with some of the campaigns she had done and absolutely loved the hair in a lot of them,  I thought I would show you afew of my faves.

First abit of background stuff on Ling..

Ling Tan who’s full name is Tan Mang Ling was South East Asia’s first supermodel. An Malaysian Chinese model who was born in Kuala Lumpur, speaks 4 dialects of Chinese as well and Malay and English.

Her works includes absolutely ALL known top designers, brands and campaigns and has worked with just as many fashion photographers, way too many to list here, believe me its an incredible list, check our her Wikipedia page!

If all that isn’t enough she has also made commercials for Pantene, Armani Fragrances, Ford Edge and appeared in George Michaels music video Fast Love.

Lin recently came out of retirement to walk the runway for Givenchy 2010 and 2011, and was also recently signed with Wilhelmina Models in NYC 2011. Once a supermodel, always a supermodel, right?
