Kurt Kueffner gives a good Shave and a Haircut…

Came across these strong looking images from American Salon magazine and figured it was about time I did a post for the boys!

Kurt Kueffner is a men’s barber/groomer/entrepreneur. In a time when men are looking for more than your old barber shop 5minute haircut but then are not ready to step into the beauty salon where lots of women are scary looking with their foils in the hair, we have the modern type Barber Shops. Kurt opened his Barber shop alongside David Raccuglia, named MENSDEPT. in Minneapolis and since then he has built a reputation for his great men’s work as well as their own product  line.

I took afew of his haircuts from their latest collection to show you some fabulous strong work where Kurt was influenced from a very young age by the traditional Barber techniques from the past.

You have to admit, these guys look ‘Sharp”’!

Making a new ‘how to’ video for my new packaging…

I’m not a fan of making videos, I have still not got used to being in front of a camera trying to talk naturally, but I knew it had to be done. I have already had my new packaging for my products for about 4months now and I still have my old video up on my blog. (saved well by Robin Hong)

Anyway I ended up enlisting the help of my brilliant model Kerina, who has been the face of JujuChan so far. I figured it would look so much better to have a gorgeous face on it rather than me showing you how to use the new packaging.

My client introduced me to Graham Howes, a videographer (but he does allsorts of other useful stuff too) who efficiently helped us shoot the video and do some voiceovers that day. I just wanted to share some pictures from that fun day with you, including one of Kerina’s gorgeous shoes : )

Shot in Dekko Salon (plenty of natural lighting) with Melina De Lara (make up artist) doing a great job with Kerina’s make up, anyway I will soon post my new ‘How To’ video for you to check out, till then enjoy the pics…

Academy Awards (Oscars) Hair 2013

Here is my latest write up for Myhairdressers.com and my views on the latest and last Award Show of the season.. The big one ~ The Academy Awards! Although I must admit I much prefer watching some of the other less stuffy ones like the Golden Globes or the Bafta’s where we had some more exciting looks coming from Helen Mirren and Paloma Faith (singer)

Anyway here’s the write up… Oscars 2013

The one star that made me excited enough to even write about the Oscars Hair… Hurray Charlize!

Cosmogony by Trevor Sorbie

Adam Szabo and Mai Ha from Trevor Sorbie UK, created these lovely fantasy styles for their latest collection named Cosmogony. Featured in ‘Behind the Chair’ magazine, I would like to share these very creative works of art with you.

Extract from magazine: (although I must admit I find the wording abit too airy fairy, sorry Trev )

‘This collection adds brand new words to the hairdressing vocabulary. Patchwork, Crevicing, Ridgeplay, Crenulation, Otherworldly and Geographic.  It stretches the limits and blurs the lines between hair and substance, reality and imagination. It reminds us that sometimes its best to destroy all that came before, and let the next era rise from the ashes. Because don’t forget, once upon a time, it all began with a single, mighty, big bang.’

Are you still fighting frizz?

Maybe its time to stop! For years we’ve been fighting frizz in our hair, we try our best and use all sorts of products, attempt to blow dry it smooth and resort to Brazilian Blowouts and Japanese Straight Perms.
Now we look around on catwalks and magazine spreads to find frizz everywhere! Does this mean frizz is now acceptable and ok to sport? Is it finally in fashion?

Looks from Top Shop:

We all know styles go round in circles, frizz is not a new look its just gone around again and now the young ones want to give it a try, it’s a far cry from the golden girl’s over processed perms or Phil Spector’s crazy mop.  Or, it could just be the fact that we’ve had ultra straight hair for quite some time now that we’re just bored and rebelling against super neat hair.

Curly hair happens because the follicle is bent and curved, the more curved it is, the tighter the curl, so therefore as  the hair grows through with bends in the hair create waves as it gets longer.

Unlike straight hair the natural oils from the roots don’t travel down the hair shaft as easily because of the curl formation hence the hair will be dryer and frizzier looking.
Therefore what’s important to get good looking frizz is for you to get as much product to moisturize the hair, all the way down to the hair lengths. Once applied, the hair should be dried without much disturbance. Once dry the hair can then be shattered to create healthier shiny frizz. For a more extreme frizzy looks like the ones shown here, the ends can be backcombed and a dryer product applied to the ends.

I personally wish I did have the curly hair so I can frizz it out, and enjoy having a lions mane!

My Pick ~ Black and Red

I love this picture, the haircut, color and styling is so strong and vivacious. Great angle for the photography too. I wish I could give credit where its due and tell you who did the work but alas I came across it online  in a beauty website called beauty-zone.org.

Well, whoever did this should be pretty proud of this one, well done..

My Pick ~ Girlie crops

Three very  lovely cropped hairstyles, shaped delicately to the head shape, giving what I would call the Jean Seberg/Mia Farrow pixie look. Its looks like these that I hope will show women in America that short hair can indeed look soft and sophisticated and that its not just for that European look. Jada Pinkett Smith said it so well recently when defending her daughter Willow in her choice to have very short hair. I will post a link here as its definitely worth a read.
