Godfrey Gao

Finally… we have an Asian Male Supermodel… way overdue but here you go… worth the wait I would say. Godfrey Gao is a Taiwanese-Canadian actor and model. Born in Vancouver to a Taiwanese father and a Malaysian mother, Godfrey is now the new face of Louis Vuitton!!

Bowing to the fastest growing demographic – the Asian consumer, Louis Vuitton is one of the most popular luxury brands amongst China’s super-rich, so it only makes sense to put that Asian face out there to represent the brand.

At 6ft 4”, he certainly breaks all the stereotypical attributes of the Chinese man, in fact Godfrey is too tall for catwalk sessions as most of the clothes do not fit him.

And again making him very unique to how other Asian males look is that he sports facial hair, this is one of the qualities that made him the face of Louis Vuitton.

I must say I totally agree with the whole facial hair look, Yumm, there’s nothing like abit of scruff to bring some sex-appeal to a man!!! I am ultra surprised at how gorgeous this guy is, Normally I don’t think much to Asian men at all, maybe because usually you get the geeky glasses with a suit and side parted hair thrown into out faces but at last we have one very sexy Asian dude!
Here’s afew more, my favorite one – Asian version of Robert Pattinson!!

My Picks ~ China Girls

Just had to share these sexy pictures and hairstyles with you. These were taken from Interview Magazine who did a feature on ‘China Girls’ showing sexy moody looks in the 20’s Opium Dens, I pulled 2 of my favorites to show you the mood and decadence of the theme.

Hair was done by Paul Hanlon from the Julia Watson Agency. I wonder if it was the same guy who did the Louis Vuitton fashion campaign as the hair looks very similar. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this total look to this feature, very clean, sharp, creative and mainly ‘very sexy’!

Here’s the Louis Vuitton campaign (from Marie Claire magazine) with a similar feel in hair.

Cool Mops

OK so its been a while since I’ve been out on the streets looking for some Cool Hair to show, but I have to get myself back into action. So here’s some fabby stuff to show you, Thanks to Scott for letting me show Sophy’s hair and Joni for Lillian’s. Thanks to all the girls for letting me show off your looks, <3 <3

Miho Matsuura

Its always so nice to see a woman stylist being appreciated and acknowledged for her work as a hairstylist and especially being in an industry full of men. There’s definitely not enough women stylists out there, So anyway I wanted to write a post about Miho Marsuura. I know most of you wont have heard of her unlike America’s most famous woman stylist – Sally Hershberger (responsible for the Meg Ryan ‘shag’) but once you see the hairstyle she created for Tao Okamoto, then you’ll know who she is…

My Pick 4 copy
Famous for giving Tao the ‘bowl cut’ that inspired so many others to have the same look. Miho cut the bowl shaped bob for Philip Lim’s ‘09 runway show. Like with Ning (beauty reporter for Marie Claire below) Miho suggests using straighteners to give the hair a flatter silkier look as not all Japanese hair is straight and smooth. Here she is at work at Twiggy Salon, Japan..

My Pick…

Short and sharp!!! Not sure if this one is an updo but whether it is or whether its actually been cut short, its a good look, I like it!! The textured front area gives a slight punky look with ‘attitude’. Thanks to whoever for
letting me showcase it!

.My Pick

My Pick..

yooneunhye

I found this picture online of Korean actress, singer and model Yoon Eun-Hye and I thought ‘What a cute look she had’!!

Sometimes its hard to make bleach blonde shades look good on Asian hair but Yoon managed to make both shades of blonde work very well, making her Pixie cut unique and fresh looking. Very pretty!

But hey, I guess if your ranked #44 out of Korea’s Top 100 most powerful and influential people in the Entertainment Industry, then you’d better make sure you look ‘mighty fine’ eh?

Hair by Dove Palmer Part 3

Update – If the slideshow does not start, view hair pics here..

My final 10 haircut choices done by Dove Palmer…

Dove Palmer is Creative Director for Vidal Sassoon Advanced Academy in London, UK. He also ran the Masters Academy for them too and has made 3 DVD step by step videos as well helped in contributing at least 12 haircut pictures for the Academy Photo collection. I came across Dove’s work on Facebook and instantly LOVED the exquisite work done by him. Funnily enough Dove turned out to have the same mentor as I did back in the day. Stacey Broughton (also from Sassoons) has been his mentor since he went to work for Sassoon’s. I definitely spotted the Stacey traits in the haircuts.

I have so many different styles to show you that he has done over the years that I have decided to split them up into 3 slide shows so that we can make the most of showcasing his work. Dove’s specialty seems to be on Asian hair, whether its because he tours to the Far East to do seminars so much (and for up to 4months at a time) or maybe its because his wife has so many friends that needs to utilise his craft, I don’t know, but whatever it may be, I’m so happy to be able to show you his creative work on Asian hair. Here is the final slide for you, I will certainly be looking out for future work of Dove’s to show you.

Thanks Dove for letting me share with my readers.

Fibrous Products..

Products with Fibers for Extra Hold….

IMG_0537

This Fiber Grease is one of the other products available from the Japanese Cool Grease line. The line ranges in different strengths and then there is this one which is made with fibers within the product, this allows for a stronger hold and makes the product a little bit tackier in feel compared to the other Cool Greases. This means its fantastic for styling shorter hairstyles, particularly Asian straighter hair, the hold is strong enough to be able to tweak and bend the straight course textures. But again water based, so easy to wash out if you use normal amounts on the hair.

Another product I wanted to mention which works in the same way (but unfortunately has just been discontinued) is the Sebastian ‘Threads’. This is similar to the above Fiber Grease but the consistency is much softer so therefore easier to manipulate into longer straight course hair. It allows the long hair to be made messier and more malleable. Shame they took it off the market!
