Quite extraordinary talent I would say to be able to mold the hair or whatever medium was used to create these hats to look like hair. Hairstylist Olivier Chomienne was the talent behind these creations..
What do you think? Likey or No likey?
I first came across Chen Man when I read an article about her in Vogue this year, her own profile picture stood out with the whole cute look she had going on.
Chen Man is a 23 year old photographer from China. From her start in China she has now become a sought after photographer shooting projects for China Vogue, Gucci, Marni, Mercedes Benz and one of her pictures was chosen to represent the Victoria and Albert Museum for an exhibition called ‘China Design Now’ in 2008. Wow – Impressive for such a young lady!
Chen Man works with make up artists a lot with her work and give directions to her shoots giving emphasis to the make up, because of the strength of the visions with the make up, M.A.C (the famous make up company) is now collaborating with the young photographer to have her own limited edition make up collection! Double Wow!
Here are some examples of Chen’s work:
I then accidently came across some more of Man’s work (the first picture) through a friend on FB, (Thnx to Scarlet for the info) I immediately spotted the similarity in the picture to her Vogue profile picture, so I did some more research. Man did some work for one of my favorite English magazine I-D Magazine. She shot a series of covers for a collection called Rise and Shine. The first few were for the magazines..
And then there were other variations for online use which were just as spectacular:
Anyway, I’m sure that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Chen Man along the way, such fabulous shots and visions : )
I found this a while back but only just got round to showing you all. The hair is so cute and ‘Betty Boop-ish’, I love it! I think I also found out the hair was done by someone I used to work with back in my London Sassoon Days – Art Director Sandy Hullett.
Hope I got that detail correct, if so Sandy, well done, it must’ve been so hard to get all the hair looking so perfect but you jolly well did.
Thanks for the inspiration..
So here I was browsing online and I came across this picture from Refinery29 (a cool website for fashion) and they were showing a fashion show by Martine Rose at the London Fashion Week. The men had some hair wraps going on, which I found even more hilarious because a year ago I was messing around with my hair and did myself a hair wrap too…
Look how similar they are : ) Just goes to show that I am WAY ahead of fashion.. Hahaha!!
I have to admit that this is the first year in over 10years that I have not watched the Oscar’s on the day it was televised, but I felt it was my duty to still do my usual post about the hair of the day…
I was surprised (or not) that there really wasnt much buzz about the hair or fashion right afterwards while I was checking it all out online, not very different from the Golden Globes this year, lots of ballerina buns, low buns and long tousled hair!
Anyway, it really didn’t take me long to find my favorites of the show,Thanks to websites BellaSugar, Glamour and Yahoo, these 3 strong looks are my best picks of the day.. Of course there’s Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara (looking stunning) and Kate Mara.
And here’s to some of my second choices.. Berenice Bejo, Anna Faris and Emma Stone.
And for those of you who missed the Oscar’s here are some of the other hairdo’s floating around the Red Carpet..
So what do you all think? Boring? Safe? Exciting? New? Thank Goodness Mara Rooney was there, that’s all I say..
I first met Josh Wood back in the 80’s where we worked together in Vidal Sassoon’s in London. Josh was a newbie then but even then I knew he was destined for greatness. He always seemed to know the right people, get the best opportunities and of course do the best work, all with that cocky, pompous attitude of his, and I mean that in a good way and with the fondest memories Josh. At that young age getting to hang out with David Bowie and his wife Iman, it meant that Josh was ‘in’!!
It comes as no surprise to me to hear now in 2011 he’s had the most impressive career. After 14 years in Sassoon’s, Josh worked as Wella Professional’s Global Creative Director since Jan 2008 and from his stint there I want to show you some of his work with them. Taken from Marie Claire (May 2011) Josh and Eugene Souleiman (celeb stylist) was inspired by vintage photos and Hitchcock heroines but added a punk twist to them.
Silver Lining-
This is inspired by Daphne Guinness , asymmetrical and represents opulent, youthful glamour, says Souleiman, who bought the headband for a couple of dollars from Chinatown in Paris. The difference between this and grey is that the highlights are metallic says Wood.
New Bouffant-
The shade of the ‘wine colored’ highlights is called ‘rosewood’. It’s a take on the purple streaks grunge girls used to do. With a softness that’s purposeful not weak.. says Wood.
And for your information Josh has just opened his Atelier (studio for artists and designers) in London’s Holland Park area, where all his socialite and celebrity clients can congregate and get fabulous color from Josh Wood.
My Pick because I like the way the hair has been set, I can only guess that the style has been set using rollers or irons. Starting the curls further down from the head to give it a flatter look at the crown working into the definite curls at the middle length and ends. Love the bushiness of it, sorry I cant remember which ad campaign this was from but well done to the stylist.
The Golden Globes is my favorite Award show every year, I love it and this year I was looking forward to seeing what the host, Ricky Gervais had to say, especially after his hard hitting cracking jokes last year..but alas I must say I was a little disappointed because although enjoyable it was just OK, I felt like he played it really safe this year : (
So, here I was ready to blog about my favorite Golden Globe hairstyles but unfortunately just like Ricky, I felt like everyone also played it really safe, of course everyone looked gorgeous but the hair was just OK, and so I have resolved to having to show you just 2 main hair styles going around the red carpet!
The pulled back low bun simple updo:
I think everyone, had a version of this simple do, whether they were young, old, trendy or classic. Even our UK’s punk princess Kelly Osborne had the same hairstyle!! So here are quite afew versions to show you..
Enough I hear you cry, anyway, you get the idea… a tad boring really!
And then we have the simple hair down look, I wont post TOO many pic’s as it almost looks like the same hairstyle, but with a different face and different hair color:
One of my favorite American people for her style factor is Zooey Deschanel, an Indie darling who normally looks quirky, cute and charming, but the hair she had last night.. Hmm, I’m just not that sure about this one, too much of a 2-step thing for my liking and while being interviewed it almost looked like she had sideburns….. shame.. what did you guys think of it?
So I guess the hair I liked and found to be the most interesting and fun and that stood out to me were these 3:
Nicole Ritchie, Jeannie Mai (with her streaky blue Veronica Lake) and Tilda Swinton who take risks every time.
And of course my 2 favorite short haired gals were Michele Williams (who always has her own sweet look away from the usual Hollywood styles) and Evan Rachel Wood looking very classy (and Congrats to Evan to her engagement to my brothers ex neighbor Jamie (Billy Elliot) Bell)
Sometimes it makes me wonder if more award shows were held in the UK whether we would get afew more risk takers and more eccentricity? We need more Helena Bonham Carter’s around to make sure we have more to talk about the next day : )
