It amazed me to find out recently that a huge % of my blog readers are guys looking for guys cuts and colors, I’m always on the look out for great men’s hairdo’s to satisfy my readers as much as I can. So now courtesy of Hyphen Magazine (Asian American Mag) they did a whole article on cool cuts on Asian hair which I would like to share with you. In fact there was so many that I have decided to split them into 3 sections so you can check them out at your own rate… If you’d like to find out more about Hyphen, check them out! Thanks Hyphen.

Rinko Kikuchi’s new look
Somebody’s had their hair cut off and it looks great. Not one for shying away from different looks, Rinko Kikuchi is constantly changing her hairstyles and trying out new looks, Here is the Japanese actress, (known for her roles in Babel and 47 Ronin), posing for and hanging out at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival where she’s seen sporting a fab looking pixie cut. Always hard to pull off on coarse Asian hair due to the hair sticking out at right angles, but if your hair can get away with it, then go for it. I have always been sad that I have always ended up with the ‘bog brush’ type of look whenever I try the pixie!
Dekko’s Photo Shoot
Its been quite some time since we updated our website photos and I have to admit, it shows! So we finally got our act together after 8 years and arranged for another shoot to brighten up our slide show on our site.
We asked our last photographer Rob (Robert Herrick) if he would be interested in helping us out again and to our delight he was up for it. Since our last shoot Rob has become quite a’ hot shot’ photographer so we were honored when he said he enjoyed the last one so much that we could count him in again.
We asked all 10 of our stylists at Dekko to participate to help find models and to donate haircuts and color time, we decided to use as many clients as possible instead of going out hiring professional models which turned out to be the best idea because Dekko’s clients ROCK! Most of the stylists/salon support team came together and we came up with 10 models to show some salon looks that clients could relate to.
Elaine (Elaine Fujii) the make up artist which we worked with did some fabulous looks with the help of Wendi our receptionist when the other make up artist dropped out. Considering she had so many models to do on her own, we want to give her a big shout out for being such a sport.
All in all, the day turned out to be a really enjoyable smooth shoot, one of the smoothest I’ve ever been on in fact, apart from the couple of unexpected snafu’s everything went as planned and I can honestly say the people who took part that day had a fab time, so a huge Thanks to the stylists who came and of course to Wendi, Sarah and Zoie, our salon support who were great and worked the 12 hour day without a moan or groan. (well maybe just one)
This turned out to be a day that showed how teamwork really should be, with everyone helping each other with the models and I must say I was very pleased with it all. Anyway, So I’d like to share some fun pictures of behind the scenes on the day and the prep time.Stay tuned for when the real pics will be revealed to all…

Dekko’s Daily Grind ~ Kerina
Some of you might recognize Kerina from my JujuChan website… she’s been one of the faces of my Texture Powder Styler from the start and recently even helped me make my new product video for me, which was really fun.
Anyway it was time for another change, Kerina had been wearing her hair longer for a few years now and we decided to give her a medium length long bob shape. We wanted to keep the movement in it and keep it looking sexy and tousled, so we put graduation into it, textured it a lot within as well as keeping the ends soft and piecey with with razor.
If there’s one hairstyle that would tempt me to cut off my dreaded locks, this would be the one : )

Brave New World
A gorgeous collection by Frank Apostopoulos, who won Australian Hairdresser of the Year – 2013. Frank is Creative Director for BIBA Australia.
His collection is called Brave New World, and as you can see is fantastically full of creativity with an edgy dark serene feel to his work. I love it, fabulous use of real and fake hair, would be perfect for a ‘Mad Max’ kind of movie! Love the make up and photography too!
Text and Pictures from’ Behind The Chair’ mag
‘Brave new world. The end came and went, and this is what remains. Shattered realities, retooled expectations, re-engineered dreams. And also, a certain freedom. Freedom to explore unexpected textures; thatched, corded and tufted. Freedom to challenge the limits of shape and color. Freedom to refresh the old, conventional notions of beauty, of what “works” and what’s appropriate. It’s a brave new world and for those who have faced the unthinkable, the future begins to shine just a little more brightly. ‘

Mark Hayes ~ Sassoon’s
With the help of his International Creative Team, Mark Hayes helped creative these fantastic styles for Vidal Sassoon Academy’s latest collection ~ The Dandies! Mark has inspired many hairstylists throughout the world in his position as the companies International Creative Director.
I’m proud to say that I too have been taught under Mark Hayes and he was one of my final test assessors, allowing me to become free to do my own thing, way back when in Leeds, England. To this day he continues to influence and was one of the contender for the British Hairdresser award 2013.
‘The Dandies takes the traditions of barbering and infuses them with a contemporary energy and verve creating a modern androgyny when boys’ cuts appear on girls’
