Scott Klassen from Dekko has been cutting Brian’s hair for many years and have come up with some great looks but this one is my absolute favorite! Shaven very short through the sides, the top remains longer and hanging over to one side in a very definite precise line. This style and variations of it has a been very popular in Europe and over here different variations can be seen on Joe Jonas and Win Butler of Arcade Fire.
Lots of background info on this ‘do’ but before we get too carried away with all the info, here’s Brian sporting his ‘undercut’… Thanks Brian, and Thanks to Sarah from Dekko for the great pictures with her choice of psychedelic background!
Lots of controversy surrounding the name of this haircut. To be honest with you, most would just call it an ‘undercut’ but hipsters have been known to go into salons/barber shops asking for the’ Hitler Youth’ haircut, (and No, Brian did not come in asking for it) which of course would cause a whole load of concern especially as more and more guys are asking for this new hip look. I don’t like to get caught up with some people’s concern’s of what they think is displaying fascism through a hairstyle, to me it’s a look – modern edgy and new for men, recreated and modernized from the 20’s and 30’s style that men used to wear all the time (Think Gary Grant or Clark Gable). Its great that men can finally have some fun with their hair despite what people choose to call it and associate with it.
For an interesting read on the topic, here’s an article I found interesting..

Robin was introduced to me through a client of mine as I was looking for a video editor. I had just shot some scenes for ‘How to Use my Juju Texture Powder Styler’. The video needed work and putting together so Robin, who has his own company Banefox and produces and edits videos and short films stepped in to help me make my short video a lot more decent. Robin now has an independent motion picture production company in the works…Revelcade Entertainment.
Anyway, after Robin took time out of his busy schedule to sort out my little hair clip, we decided he should have a change of style. He came into Dekko and I decided to ‘perk’ up his old hairstyle abit.
Here’s Robin before:
After a lot of slicing, chopping, razoring and shaping, we came up with this new shape for Robin..
Looks great right (if I may say so myself) Thanks to Robin for all his help with this JujuChan video.. as well as being patient with my pictures… Cheers!
Fantastic visuals of before’s and after’s of the fabulous work of Peter Grey who was the hairstylist on this shoot and Andreas Kurwitz who did all the crazy creative color work. Dazed Digital is the online fashion version of Dazed and Confused.
Fashion Editor Cathy Edwards said:
“I was inspired by some punk hairdressing postcards I found at a car boot sale about 10 years ago. I’ve had them on my wall for all that time and finally decided to show them to a hairdresser and use them as a starting point to create some very extreme ‘hair art’.
Peter is one of the most technically skilled hairdressers I’ve ever worked with and I knew he would be able to do something amazing. He is so passionate about what he does that it was great working with him. He has a brilliant team of really skilled assistants and colourists that means anything is possible!
The girls were all great! It took three days and late nights to do and they all had to have their hair bleached to white before the cut and colour so it was very time consuming. They were all very patient and totally open to anything we wanted to do. I loved the fact they were different characters and all of them really liked how the hair looked in the end.”
Great work, Thanks for sharing with us : )
Just wanted to share my 2nd article that I have written for UK’s professional educational website – MyHairdressers.com. Proud to have been asked by this team of talented and creative group of people to join them as one of their features writer specializing on things happening in the US or in San Francisco where I reside.
Just so I don’t end up doubling up on my articles, I keep my features different to my blog posts, so follow this link to take you to the article… this one is about ‘Celebs Hair that influences Clients in the Salons’.
Enjoy : )

Every now and again, I start to do my haircut at work and then when there’s tons of hair that start to fly and around a third of the way through I then realize that I should’ve taken some before pictures of my client : (
So I end up taking the ‘after’ pics anyway and hope that the client will have some good ‘before’ pics for me to slot in.. anyway, this was the case of Jenny Ping who came into Dekko to see me.
Jenny was so sweet and was open to having some changes to her hair but still wanted to continue growing the length down. The hair was already asymmetrical but it was almost one length throughout. The only problem I foresaw was the step in the middle of the long side! This was my challenge to try to blend it altogether to make it work with the rest of the hair.
Here’s 2 pictures that Jenny sent to me after showing her hair before the ‘chop’!
Anyway, we decided to layer it all up, lighten up the inside of the hair while keeping the whole outside length long. I also wanted to chop up the fringe area so it didn’t hang to heavy on her face. Once we had layered it all we used some styling cream to get the effect of chunkiness to the hair.
Sorry about the bright ‘back’ picture.. but at least it shows off the layers anyway.
What was surprising about the hair was once all the weight was taken off, there was so much natural texture in the hair, it all came to life and so Jenny could play around and have a much more textured fun look, and I was able to blend in the hole at the side : )
Thanks for posing and sending me the before pics Jenny, I enjoyed doing your hair..
Again, I have to apologize for not knowing who did the work for this hairstyle, but I chose it for its very creative cut and color work. similar to another one I posted the precision work with the color is fantastic (although I hope the work was not touched up in Photoshop afterwards cos you just never know nowadays)
Anyhoo, fabulous strong defined shape, well done to whoever did this!
