Optique Collection by Tracey Hughes

Came across these fantastic looks a while back but finally came across the full collection so I wanted to share it with you. Here is a excerpt from American Salon magazine, where it was featured exclusively..

‘French romanticism is the heart of the new Optique collection from Australian artist Tracey Hughes and the Mieka Hairdressing team. Encompassing smooth graphic shapes, disheveled texture, boldly cut fringes, rounded edged and intricate braids, the hairstyles strike the perfect balance between classic and edgy. Ultra feminine fashions combined with chic minimalist eye make up and dramatic dark lips complete the glamorous effect. Optique draws inspiration from an era of expensive and elegant tastes, creating seamlessly flawless images, says Hughes, who is artistic director for Redken Australia and winner of the 2011 Australian Masters and Australian Salon of the Year awards. I chose to shoot in black and white to capture the feel of iconic classic and contemporary feminine looks.’

Dazed Digital ~ I was a punk rock princess

Fantastic visuals of before’s and after’s of the fabulous work of Peter Grey who was the hairstylist on this shoot and Andreas Kurwitz who did all the crazy creative color work. Dazed Digital is the online fashion version of  Dazed and Confused.

Fashion Editor Cathy Edwards said:

“I was inspired by some punk hairdressing postcards I found at a car boot sale about 10 years ago. I’ve had them on my wall for all that time and finally decided to show them to a hairdresser and use them as a starting point to create some very extreme ‘hair art’.

Peter is one of the most technically skilled hairdressers I’ve ever worked with and I knew he would be able to do something amazing. He is so passionate about what he does that it was great working with him. He has a brilliant team of really skilled assistants and colourists that means anything is possible!

The girls were all great! It took three days and late nights to do and they all had to have their hair bleached to white before the cut and colour so it was very time consuming. They were all very patient and totally open to anything we wanted to do. I loved the fact they were different characters and all of them really liked how the hair looked in the end.”

Great work, Thanks for sharing with us : )

My Picks ~ Electric Youth

Found these a while back in Teen Vogue. I noticed the hair was done by one of my favorite session stylists Eugene Souleiman who has worked for most top salons such as Trevor Sorbie, Bumble and Bumble, Sassoon’s, L’Oreal Professionnel. He is in my opinion one of the most outstanding stylists working today, creating fabulous inspiring work for fashion magazines and catwalks.

The photographs were taken by Sebastian Kim who has shot for Teen Vogue, Interview Mag, Harper’s Bazaar UK, China Vogue and allsorts of others publications, also with a very impressive portfolio.

Lovely to see such creative working together. I chopped down the pics so we could concentrate on the hair.. full versions can be seen on Sebastian Kim’s  blog.

Pink Hair..

I have always loved the baby pink hair that’s been all over the place. I once had my own small pieces scattered throughout my hair, the only problem was having to bleach out the hair to a light enough shade of blonde in order to put the baby pink on it. Of course it didn’t last too long either but for the one day seminar I had to do it was fine.

Lately I’ve seen so many Ads and other pictures with that shade of pink, I was always told it would be difficult or almost impossible to get it looking so light and pink on Asian hair, which is why most people would settle just for the pieces in the dark hair. Here’s an example of the pink I was talking about…..

Anyway I came across one Asian girl who managed to get this shade of pink for herself… From the chart topping  South Korean Band.. Miss A, this young lady JIA looks fabulous as she’s swinging her hair around singing Bad Girl Good Girl with her other band members. (Thanks @ Doug Henderson) for showing me the video. So this just goes to show, if you’ve got enough time money and a great colorist, Asian’s can have baby pink hair!
