Pink Hair..

I have always loved the baby pink hair that’s been all over the place. I once had my own small pieces scattered throughout my hair, the only problem was having to bleach out the hair to a light enough shade of blonde in order to put the baby pink on it. Of course it didn’t last too long either but for the one day seminar I had to do it was fine.

Lately I’ve seen so many Ads and other pictures with that shade of pink, I was always told it would be difficult or almost impossible to get it looking so light and pink on Asian hair, which is why most people would settle just for the pieces in the dark hair. Here’s an example of the pink I was talking about…..

Anyway I came across one Asian girl who managed to get this shade of pink for herself… From the chart topping  South Korean Band.. Miss A, this young lady JIA looks fabulous as she’s swinging her hair around singing Bad Girl Good Girl with her other band members. (Thanks @ Doug Henderson) for showing me the video. So this just goes to show, if you’ve got enough time money and a great colorist, Asian’s can have baby pink hair!

Chen Man, Photographer

I first came across Chen Man when I read an article about her in Vogue this year, her own profile picture stood out with the whole cute look she had going on.

Vogue Chen Man 1

Chen Man is a 23 year old photographer from China.  From her start in China she has now become a sought after photographer shooting projects  for China Vogue, Gucci, Marni, Mercedes Benz and one of her pictures was chosen to represent the Victoria and Albert Museum for an exhibition called ‘China Design Now’ in 2008. Wow – Impressive for such a young lady!

Chen Man works with make up artists a lot with her work and give directions to her shoots giving emphasis to the make up, because of the strength of the visions with the make up, M.A.C (the famous make up company) is now collaborating with the young photographer to have her own limited edition make up collection! Double Wow!

Here are some examples of Chen’s work:

I then accidently came across some more of Man’s work (the first picture) through a friend on FB, (Thnx to Scarlet for the info) I immediately spotted the similarity in the picture to her Vogue profile picture, so I did some more research. Man did some work for one of my favorite English magazine I-D Magazine. She shot a series of covers for a collection called Rise and Shine. The first few were for the magazines..

And then there were other variations for online use which were just as spectacular:

Anyway, I’m sure that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Chen Man along the way, such fabulous shots and visions : )

My Pick ~ Prada Ad

I found this a while back but only just got round to showing you all. The hair is so cute and ‘Betty Boop-ish’, I love it!  I think I also found out the hair was done by someone I used to work with back in my London Sassoon Days – Art Director Sandy Hullett.

Hope I got that detail correct, if so Sandy, well done, it must’ve been so hard to get all the hair looking so perfect but you jolly well did.

Thanks for the inspiration..

Stenciling

Spotted on the catwalk for Betsey Johnson, this gorgeous stenciled lace look created by Redken’s leading stylist Peter Gray.

thefashiontramp.tumblr

vandavintage.tumblr

Peter created this gorgeous look by using black wigs, cut into bobs. They were influenced by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction as well as the Sassoon bobs and Cleopatra fringes, the lace effect was added because Peter thought a simple bob shape was simply not ‘Betsey’ enough and for those of you who know Betsey we know he was right. This stunning lace look made it all the more special. Gray used lace as the stencil and while it was wrapped around the head, he used color spray to create the look.

The hair/wigs had to be blow dried and flat ironed very straight first as the stenciling effect doesn’t show well on textured hair.

Oscar’s Hair 2012

I have to admit that this is the first year in over 10years that I have not watched the Oscar’s on the day it was televised, but I felt it was my duty to still do my usual post about the hair of the day…

I was surprised (or not) that there really wasnt much buzz about the hair or fashion right afterwards while I was checking it all out online, not very different from the Golden Globes this year, lots of ballerina buns, low buns and long tousled hair!

Anyway, it really didn’t take me long to find my favorites of the show,Thanks to websites BellaSugar, Glamour and Yahoo, these 3 strong looks are my best picks of the day.. Of course there’s Michelle Williams,  Rooney Mara (looking stunning) and Kate Mara.

And here’s to some of my second choices.. Berenice Bejo, Anna Faris and Emma Stone.

And for those of you who missed the Oscar’s here are some of the other hairdo’s floating around the Red Carpet..

So what do you all think? Boring? Safe? Exciting? New? Thank Goodness Mara Rooney was there, that’s all I say..

My Picks ~ Asian Models Series-3

Some fabulous shots and a brilliant fashion spread by Photographer Paolo Roversi for Vogue Korea.
Models – Hyun Yi Lee, Han Hye Jin, Hye Jung Lee.
I simply love the styling and hair on these pictures, even though two have the Tao Okomoto bowl cut, it’s a great look on Asian hair. My favorite photo being the one with the colorful hat, well done guys!

Golden Globes Hair..2012

The Golden Globes is my favorite Award show every year, I love it and this year I was looking forward to seeing what the host, Ricky Gervais had to say, especially after his hard hitting cracking jokes last year..but alas I must say I was a little disappointed because although enjoyable it was just OK, I felt like he played it really safe this year : (

So, here I was ready to blog about my favorite Golden Globe hairstyles but unfortunately just like Ricky, I felt like everyone also played it really safe, of course everyone looked gorgeous but the hair was just OK,  and so I have resolved to having to show you just 2 main hair styles going around the red carpet!

The pulled back low bun simple updo:

I think everyone, had a version of this simple do, whether they were young, old, trendy or classic. Even our UK’s punk princess Kelly Osborne had the same hairstyle!! So here are quite afew versions to show you..

Enough I hear you cry, anyway, you get the idea… a tad boring really!

And then we have the simple hair down look, I wont post TOO many pic’s as it almost looks like the same hairstyle, but with a different face and different hair color:

One of my favorite American people for her style factor is Zooey Deschanel, an Indie darling who normally looks quirky, cute and charming, but the hair she had last night.. Hmm, I’m just not that sure about this one, too much of a 2-step thing for my liking and while being interviewed it almost looked like she had sideburns….. shame.. what did you guys think of it?

goldenglobes_zooeydeschanel001temptalia

So I guess the hair I liked and found to be the most interesting and fun and that stood out to me were these 3:

Nicole Ritchie, Jeannie Mai (with her streaky blue Veronica Lake) and Tilda Swinton who take risks every time.

And of course my 2 favorite short haired gals were Michele Williams (who always has her own sweet look away from the usual Hollywood styles) and Evan Rachel Wood looking very classy (and Congrats to Evan to her engagement to my brothers ex neighbor Jamie (Billy Elliot) Bell)

Sometimes it makes me wonder if more award shows were held in the UK whether we would get afew more risk takers and more eccentricity? We need more Helena Bonham Carter’s around to make sure we have more to talk about the next day : )

My Picks ~ Asian Models Series-2

Paolo Roversi must be one lucky guy!! This photographer gets to shoot these up and coming gorgeous Asian models both for China Vogue as well as Korea Vogue (another post)  This one was shot for the cover of Vogue China:
vogue Paolo Roversi
It just amazes me how similar they look when they have been styled the same, both in the first picture and the punk rock Steven Meisal shoot we showed. at least with the 2nd picture, the hair makes the features of each girl stand out more.
Inside this issue is an article  called Black on Black, Photographs were taken by Peter Lindbergh and styled by Nicoletta Santoro. I Love this next picture of Liu Wen, Tao Okomoto and Ming Xi,  and I  love the hair being casually wrapped and of course Tao’s bowl cut, which makes her so distinct.
My pick - Vogue China Liu Wen, Toa, Ming Xi

Dip Dyed Hair..

I noticed recently that there seems to be another color trend going around! It looks like its stemmed from the ‘Ombre’ coloring technique but this one being more fun more wild and more punky! I love it!

Bright colors are applied onto the ends of the hair, anything from pink, purple, green multi colored etc. etc. Celebs such as Lady Gaga and Lauren Conrad and of course as always with all trends, Drew Barrymore have been seen with their dip-dyed hair. For a good read and to see how its done, check out Bangstyle where I found this picture below.

beauty-queen-dip-dyed-hair

Below we have Lady Gaga (photo source) and Lauren Conrad (Photo Source)with their looks..

This is best to have it done professionally I would say as it involves bleaching the hair first before applying the brighter colors. Here are some more samples of Dip-dyed hair (thanks to www.buzzfeed.com for the pics)

For those of us who are alittle bit intimidated by the bleach and the ruining of the hair and having to look at it for so long, Aussie Hairdresser Kevin Murphy has brought out a temporary color dye to achieve this same look. Called ‘Color.Bug’, it comes in 3 colors – Pink, Orange and Purple.

This product can be applied quickly by using a product such as hairspray beforehand, or something for the product to grip onto, then the color is applied onto the ends. Washes out completely. The only thing I don’t know is whether this products works well on dark hair or only on medium to blonde hair. But fabulous for a different look for the evening!

My Picks ~ Asian Models Series-1

There’s been so many articles about the new (not so new now)  crop of  upcoming supermodels from China, Japan and Korea lately that I wanted to show them ALL to you.. so here is my first post, taken from Vogue (last year, sorry I’m abit behind)  who has featured these girls so much, The photographer here was Steven Meisal. The shoot was styled by Grace Coddington and the hair was dressed into modern punk rock styles to contrast with the ball gowns and amazingly enough, I have looked so hard to see who did the wonderful hair dressing for this shoot and could not find anything online, so I’m very sorry to the hairstylist who should’ve got full credit for this.
My Picks 2 Vogue Dec 2010
My picks
The girls include: Liu Wen, Tao Okamoto, Du Juan, Bonnie Chen, Hyoni Kong, Lee Hyun Yi, Lily Zhi and So Young Kong.
I have to admit, even with my experienced Asian eyes, even though I think the spread is fabulous, the way they have been styled makes it really difficult to distinguish between one fine boned girl to another, making me think that the old sayin’ ‘All Asians look alike’ could well be true here.. Eek sorry!
