Curl Defining Cream ~ by Moroccan Oil

14_curl-defining-cream

Its been a while since I have come across a curl product that I like.. but after trying this Curl Defining Cream by the company Moroccan Oil, I am now a huge fan.

The reasons why I like it are:

The texture of the cream is light and fluffy so its easy to distribute throughout the hair.

The shine from the cream continues throughout the whole of the hair length, something we rarely see with curly hair.

It dries softly but has enough hold on the curl.

Not too heavy.

I have just remembered that in all the occasions that I used it, there was only one clients that I did not like the result on, The top of the hair seemed to not have enough hold therefore falling flatter and there didn’t seem to be enough hold to keep the curls in place when I shook the hair out! This was only 1 head of hair out or maybe 60 others that I used it on, so not bad, it could’ve been that I didn’t apply enough on the top or whatever the reason, it was not enough to put me off using it.

My Pick…

My Pick 10
Again, I have to apologize for not knowing who did the work for this hairstyle, but I chose it for its very creative cut and color work. similar to another one I posted the precision work with the color is fantastic (although I hope the work was not touched up in Photoshop afterwards cos you just never know nowadays)
Anyhoo, fabulous strong defined shape, well done to whoever did this!

Chen Man, Photographer

I first came across Chen Man when I read an article about her in Vogue this year, her own profile picture stood out with the whole cute look she had going on.

Vogue Chen Man 1

Chen Man is a 23 year old photographer from China.  From her start in China she has now become a sought after photographer shooting projects  for China Vogue, Gucci, Marni, Mercedes Benz and one of her pictures was chosen to represent the Victoria and Albert Museum for an exhibition called ‘China Design Now’ in 2008. Wow – Impressive for such a young lady!

Chen Man works with make up artists a lot with her work and give directions to her shoots giving emphasis to the make up, because of the strength of the visions with the make up, M.A.C (the famous make up company) is now collaborating with the young photographer to have her own limited edition make up collection! Double Wow!

Here are some examples of Chen’s work:

I then accidently came across some more of Man’s work (the first picture) through a friend on FB, (Thnx to Scarlet for the info) I immediately spotted the similarity in the picture to her Vogue profile picture, so I did some more research. Man did some work for one of my favorite English magazine I-D Magazine. She shot a series of covers for a collection called Rise and Shine. The first few were for the magazines..

And then there were other variations for online use which were just as spectacular:

Anyway, I’m sure that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Chen Man along the way, such fabulous shots and visions : )

My Pick ~ Prada Ad

I found this a while back but only just got round to showing you all. The hair is so cute and ‘Betty Boop-ish’, I love it!  I think I also found out the hair was done by someone I used to work with back in my London Sassoon Days – Art Director Sandy Hullett.

Hope I got that detail correct, if so Sandy, well done, it must’ve been so hard to get all the hair looking so perfect but you jolly well did.

Thanks for the inspiration..

Color for Men..

Heather English who works with us at Dekko Salon has been taking care of quite afew of our men who have not been too happy about their salt and pepper hair becoming too salty!!!

Goldwell’s Men ReShade is one of the latest launches in men’s hair color, Because of its easy application which is usually applied at the color bowl and with it being foam based, this makes the ReShade a quick no mess treatment to have.

Quite afew of my clients have been to Heather to try it and have been very happy with their results. I have also noticed that there is no harsh hard lines around the hairline and edges so it doesn’t look like a fake piece has been ‘plonked’ on top of the head : )

Heather added that it leave the hair much more natural looking than tints because it leaves the hair with a cool tone, and It is used for grey reduction and blending and NOT grey coverage! The result usually lasts about 4 – 5 weeks which is ideal to have to coincide with their haircuts. Also note that is washes away naturally and does not have a regrowth line.

Goldwell’s ReShade:

Other companies also have their own solutions but work on the same lines.. for example Redken Color Camo for Men, another quick easy option to camouflage the grey hair…

And just for your information, I managed to get a shot of a slightly crooked  color chart for Redken’s Color Camo to give you an idea of the color choices and shades, although I always think its best to leave it to your colorist to choose the shade, after all, they do know best! So guys – what are you waiting for? Oh and I forgot to mention it was also easy on the wallet too : )

Getting Yourself Cloned??

Had to share this with you all, only in Japan eh? Imagine being able to order a replica clone doll of yourself? Right, you’ve always wanted there to be 2 of you? So now its possible!

Japanese companies has been cloning for years but in 2010, Hiroshi Ishiguro, a University professor unveiled a female android named Geminoid F, the android was modeled from a young lady in her 20’s, he has come up with a way to replicate your looks, smiles, frowns, nods and responds to human touch, abit scary isn’t it?

These androids are being tested right now for future receptionists in hospitals and offices, although I have to say I have seen very similar life like sex dolls too. I hope they don’t make them soon to replace hairdressers!!

Anyway, these dolls come at a hefty price of around $110,000 to $225,000 so I reckon you should start saving if you want one of these…

Here’s a video showing the moves and expressions on this scary life like doll…

My Pick..Sui He

I know I know, its just long hair but I chose it because this look is ‘right up my alley’ You know how I just love messy hair that’s not brushed, combed or anything, this is it! Modeled on one of the newest Asian models to make her mark, Sui He so that helps doesn’t it?

My Pick2

Hit or Miss.. Funny!

So here I was browsing online and I came across this picture from Refinery29 (a cool website for fashion) and they were showing a fashion show by Martine Rose at the London Fashion Week. The men had some hair wraps going on, which I found even more hilarious because a year ago I was messing around with my hair and did myself a hair wrap too…

Look how similar they are : ) Just goes to show that I am WAY ahead of fashion.. Hahaha!!

Growing out your Layers or Hair..

We’ve all been there right? Well I hope so, I hope most women have tried short hair at some point in their lives! Anyway, you’ve had the cutest short haircut and now you’ve had it short for so long, your bored.. Now what? What is the best way to grow out your hair?

I wanted to write this post to help those people who never seem to be able to grow it past a certain length before they cant stand it and off it comes again.

Using pictures to help me describe the different points of growth. To put it as simply as I can, there are 2 main ways of growing your hair out from a short pixie. But with both methods one of the most important secrets to easier hair growth is to keep it thinned out and textured, this will stop it from looking like a bowl while growing and you will be dealing with less hair as well as it looking better along the way.

1. You can either choose to carry on growing out the length as well as the layers until its all longer, the disadvantage of this method is that it will always be quite messy looking and highly likely (if you have a low hairline) that you will at some point have a kind of mullety look. This method will end up looking abit like a shag, so is great for trendier people.

2. You can grow all the layers out longer first while keeping sides and back shorter and neater, then when it reaches a certain length then the whole of hair will need to grow. At some point you will end up with a kid of bob shape. This one is the ‘neater’ way of growing out hair but for people who hate bobs, this method may not be for you.

Then as the hair continues to grow you will hit the worst point where the hair will hit the shoulders and flip! This is unavoidable so depending on how much you hate hair flipping, this can be controlled by how much or how short your layers are at this point. You could grow it down with heavier layers to keep the flipping from happening so much and then add more layers as you get past this stage or you can have quite afew layers and have it looking very  rock chickish.

BUT.. you should be aware that depending on your hair type and thickness, having too many layers at this length could very well result in a ‘Rachel’ from friends which in my eyes is a no no!!

Once you get about 2inches past the shoulder then you are scott free and well on your way to having long hair!!! Anyway, hope this helps you get past the worst stages : )

Remember texture texture thin out and chop it up, that’s the secret! Oh and of course a good hairstylist helps : /
