Renegade Fair Hair

Its been a long time since I’ve been out on the streets looking for my ‘Cool Mops’ for my blog, and I didn’t actually intend to go approaching people again, but once I walked around the Renegade Arts and Crafts Fair yesterday, (an Annual Event held at the Fort Mason in San Francisco) I noticed a few good looking Hair (and stylish) girls around. So out came my i-phone and before I finished up for the day I went snapping away.

Here are some of the looks I  saw and because I’m so out of practice I only got a few of their names so hopefully they might see this and I can add it later, Thanks girls for posing for me and  letting me put you on my blog.

Dazed Digital ~ I was a punk rock princess

Fantastic visuals of before’s and after’s of the fabulous work of Peter Grey who was the hairstylist on this shoot and Andreas Kurwitz who did all the crazy creative color work. Dazed Digital is the online fashion version of  Dazed and Confused.

Fashion Editor Cathy Edwards said:

“I was inspired by some punk hairdressing postcards I found at a car boot sale about 10 years ago. I’ve had them on my wall for all that time and finally decided to show them to a hairdresser and use them as a starting point to create some very extreme ‘hair art’.

Peter is one of the most technically skilled hairdressers I’ve ever worked with and I knew he would be able to do something amazing. He is so passionate about what he does that it was great working with him. He has a brilliant team of really skilled assistants and colourists that means anything is possible!

The girls were all great! It took three days and late nights to do and they all had to have their hair bleached to white before the cut and colour so it was very time consuming. They were all very patient and totally open to anything we wanted to do. I loved the fact they were different characters and all of them really liked how the hair looked in the end.”

Great work, Thanks for sharing with us : )

Fashion Illustrator ~ Julie Verhoeven

I came across this talented English artist in the magazine ‘Plastic Dreams’ and loved her bright colorful artwork. Not only is Julie’s work colorful but Julie herself as well as her home is vibrant and full of color.

Her doe eyed trendy figures have used and illustrated on bags for LV and Mulberry, swimsuits for Versace and lip gloss tubes for Lancôme. Her designs are also published in Vogue, Dazed and Confused and The face magazines as well as working with other companies such as H & M home.

She has a permanent collection in the Victoria and Albert Museum with around 40 of Julie’s drawings, Now that’ what you call an achievement. Excellent!

Here are 2 of my favorite picks of  her drawings:

Julie reveals that she is inspired by pop culture, city lie, music and also by her own mortality, so to move forward she is finding new ways to express herself – Darker, gritty and less pretty. We cant wait to see more of her work.

Braids..

This post has been LONG overdue for me.. I have been meaning to write this post for over a year now and with sooo many distractions along the way, and the fact that I honestly thought I would make a video for you of how to quickly braid your hair, but now I realize that video is just not gonna happen so then I had to do this post without it.. about bloody time I hear you say, its been over and been back in fashion again : /

So, of course, the trend was everso popular with the celebs who was sporting them all of last year, the look was fresh and cute so I think we all caught onto it fast. Everything from side braids to Heidi braids were everywhere. Here are some of my favorites with the celebs that were showing it off.

Here we have Sienna Miller and Jessica Alba..

And Gwen Stefani and Diane Kruger..

Of course the catwalks had their fair share of braids too, here is my own special favorite that I even tried out myself once.. me, who doesn’t ever do anything with the hair!

Braids my fave

And more from the catwalks last year..

So of course with Catwalks and Celebs doing it, that was our cue for us normal human beings to be doing it too, so everywhere we looked there they were.. But I have to admit that even though this post is over a year overdue, have you noticed that its still out there isn’t it? Which means it was a good long lasting trend that not only is simple to do but is good to look at and is a practical way of getting the hair out of the way : )

So to finish off here’s afew regular but still beautiful people wearing Braids in their hair..

Hawaiian Hair (lol!)

Couldn’t resist this one.. Just got back from a trip from Maui, Hawaii and as you know I always look for hair wherever I go to..

So this was the best I could come up with (other than wet beach hair of course : )

All taken at the Old Lahaina Lu’au, thanks girls.

Jean Paul Gaultier Hair..

Spotted on the catwalk in Milan’s Fashion Show 2012 is Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall collection, complete with spray-on hair color.

Bright colors are sprayed just on the top close to the parting with bright colors ranging from Orange to Blue to Silver and Pinks.

Stylist Guido Palau was the creative one responsible for spraying the roots with a ‘graffiti stripe’.  They had some fun while they did some ‘free styling’.
Super long extensions were blow-dried and flat ironed straight first, then by adding some super strong finishing spray, this gave the hair the base to then add the color. Bright sprays were then sprayed onto each side of the parting.

The result – Punky, rocker-ish, edgy yet chic, all at once.

My Picks ~ Electric Youth

Found these a while back in Teen Vogue. I noticed the hair was done by one of my favorite session stylists Eugene Souleiman who has worked for most top salons such as Trevor Sorbie, Bumble and Bumble, Sassoon’s, L’Oreal Professionnel. He is in my opinion one of the most outstanding stylists working today, creating fabulous inspiring work for fashion magazines and catwalks.

The photographs were taken by Sebastian Kim who has shot for Teen Vogue, Interview Mag, Harper’s Bazaar UK, China Vogue and allsorts of others publications, also with a very impressive portfolio.

Lovely to see such creative working together. I chopped down the pics so we could concentrate on the hair.. full versions can be seen on Sebastian Kim’s  blog.
